"TAILS OF A DOG PHOTOGRAPHER" by Cheryl Ertelt

Join Cheryl Ertelt as she relives thoughts on her days as a dog photographer. It is a work in progress, drawing from old emails to friends, journal entries as well as her memories and ongoing experiences.Dedication
This book is dedicated to my first cat Charky, who I got when I started my first job after college. He and my 3 other cats, Mouse, Minx and Suede were my only pets when I began specializing in dog photography in 1998. For years I had told myself I was not home enough to have a dog. Charky was 14 when I began to rethink my priorities. Unfortunately he had no tolerance for a dog in the house. If a dog came to visit, he would launch himself from a stool at the dog, flipping in midair to hit the unsuspecting dog with his back claws. After he ‘marked’ the dog, he would ‘mark’ the house as well. I decided it was not fair to get a dog while I had Charky. He died in 2004 at the age of 20.

null
This book is dedicated to my friend Kate Barton, the breeder of Fireside Cruise Control. I met her over 10 years ago when she used to bring 3 or 4 of her dogs into the office where I worked at Christmas time. They would be in costumes, always very well behaved and their tails were always wagging. Over the next few years, Kate introduced me to many other dog owners as I began to photograph dogs seriously. I also got to meet a lot of flat-coated retrievers and found I loved their intelligence and happy-go-lucky attitude. After my black cat Charky died at the age of 20, I decided I was ready for a dog. Kate helped me picked the subject of this book and she has been around to help in the training not only of the dog but also of the new dog owner… Thank you Kate.
